This is a beautiful specimen of Discoscaphites conradi from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. The fossil cephalopod is very inflated and complete all the way down to the aperture. The faint ribbing pattern and the nodes around the circumference of the ammonite are nicely preserved. The AMAZING iridescent mother-of-pearl shell is intact and beautifully displayed - a wide array of colors is exhibited. The ammonite is free of matrix, but can be placed back in the rock in which it was extracted! The natural matrix block also contains mother-of-pearl shaell and many fossil bivalves. This is a very pretty display ammonite from the Fox Hills Formation. (Both the ammonite and the matrix block are included here together).
