Here is a fabulous fossil nautiloid. This is a HUGE Cymatoceras saholaons from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This distinct nautiloid has been sliced in half, and both halves have been highly polished. The primitive, straight-line sutures define this fossil as a rare nautiloid rather than an ammonite. The coiling pattern of the nautiloid is easily seen, and the individual body chambers are quite distinct. And the central siphuncle is even displayed, which is quite unusual.. The colorful mineral replacement makes for a beautiful display. This is a very large, very fine specimen of a split fossil nautiloid from the Cretaceous.
