Here is a colorful example of Pleuroceras spinatus from the Jurassic of Germany. This type of ammonite has coarse ribs and a wide keel with a continuous ridge running the length of the keel. The ammonite is 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The inner whorls of the cephalopod are clearly defined. The ammonite has been replaced by iron pyrite, or ''fool's gold'' - the golden coloration of the ammonite makes for a very striking display. This is a very pretty specimen of Pleuroceras spinatus from Germany.
