Here is a very unusual cephalopod. This is a rare Unidentified Ammonoid from the Permian of Timor. Permian cephalopods are highly collectible - there are not many locations in the world where nice Permian cephalopods are found. Also, due to political unrest, it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain material from this area. This ammonoid has been removed from the surrounding rock so that it can be viewed from all angles. It has been cut in half and polished for optimal display. The MANY individual chambers of the 3-dimensional cephalopod are nicely exhibited, and the reddish coloration of the fossil is quite striking. This is a very uncommon specimen of an unusual Permian cephalopod from an exotic location.
