This is a very interesting fossil sponge. It is an Astylospongia inciso-lobata from the Silurian of Tennessee. The rounded sponge sits up on the matrix and can be viewed from all angles. This specimen is quite large for the type and has better detail than most examples of this sponge. The fossil is very 3-dimensional and exhibits excellent shape and form. This is an extremely nice specimen of this very old fossil sponge.
