Here is a very distinct specimen of Archimedes sp. from Missouri. This unusual, corkscrew-shaped bryozoan is only found the Mississippian of North America! This bryozoan colony attached itself to the ocean floor with the spiraling fronds in an upward position. The fossil still has some of the colonial fronds intact, which is quite unusual. The fossil is easily seen on the orange matrix plate. This is a very fine example of this strange-looking bryozoan.
