Name:
Chesapecten nefrens with Barnacles Age: Miocene Formation: Choptank Formation Location: Calvert County, Maryland Size: Scallop is over 6 inches across! This specimen is not for sale Click here for similar specimens that are for sale
This is a very collectible fossil. It is a complete Chesapecten nefrens from the famous Calvert Area of Maryland. This type of bivalve is a scallop, as seen by the shape of the shell. This HUGE specimen (over SIX inches across!) has both halves of the shell intact and fossilized together. The top side of the scallop has MANY excellent barnacles preserved on it - it is quite rare to have this many barnacles still intact. The back side shell also displays beautifully. This is a textbook example of classic fossil symbiosis from the Chesapeake Bay region.
