This is an outstanding stromatolite specimen. This is Collenia sp. from the Precambrian of Michigan. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This stromatolite is estimated to be 2.3 to 2.5 billion years old! This striking slice of stromatolite has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The gorgeous dark pink coloration of the mineral replacement and the unique pattern make for a stunning exhibit. This is a very collectible example of a Kona stromatolite from Michigan.
