Here is very nice single echinoid from Gilmore City, Iowa. The Gilmore City locality is known much more for its crinoid fossils than the very rare urchins found there. This plate has a very nice Archaeocidaris aliquantula echinoid preserved. The detailed urchin is beautifully displayed with many long spines intact, which is quite unusual. The fossil has great color and contrast and is naturally positioned on the semi-squared block of limestone. This is a very collectible example of this uncommon echinoid from a classic locality.
