This is a very cool fossil. It is a complete Chesapecten nefrens from the famous Calvert Area of Maryland. This type of bivalve is a scallop, as seen by the shape of the shell. This colorful specimen has both halves of the shell intact and fossilized together. The top side of the scallop has the remnants of large barnacles preserved on it - it is quite cool to have barnacles attached to the bivalve. The back side shell also displays well. This is an unusual fossil symbiosis from the Chesapeake Bay region.
