Here is an extremely rare cystoid from the Silurian of New York. This is Callocystites jewetti from the Rochester Shale. This primitive echinoderm is nicely inflated and exhibits great detail. The highly ornamented plates are wonderfully articulated. The long, tapering stem is still preserved and tightly attached. The cystoid has very good color and contrast. It is well presented on the somewhat rounded plate of shale. This is one of the nicest examples of this unusual cystoid that we have seen.
