This is a fabulous example of a very unusual fossil echinoderm. This is a beautiful Spinadiscus lefebvrei edrioasteroid from the Ordovician of Morocco. Edrioasteroids were primitive echinoderms which consisted of a flexible theca composed of numerous polygonal plates. This edrioasteroid has great natural orange color and excellent contrast. The fossil has extremely fine detail preserved - the plate structure is very easily seen, and the star-shaped center is nicely intact. The edrio is beautifully showcased on the natural plate of sandstone. This is a textbook example of this unique fossil echinoderm from Morocco.
