This is a very interesting brachiopod fossil. This is an Unidentified Brachiopod from the famous Penn-Dixie Quarry of New York. This type of brachiopod is a "winged" spiriferid of some sort. The brachiopod has both valves intact and is nicely articulated. The fine detail of the fossil ''lamp shell'' is quite remarkable. The fossil has very good color and contrast and is nicely composited on the plate of shale. This is an extremely attractive and distinct Devonian brachiopod from the Empire State.
