This is a very striking specimen of a fossil shrimp. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This shrimp is nicely preserved and exhibits fine detail. The head, segmented body, and tail of the shrimp is clearly defined - even the long legs and antennae are quite evident. The fossil is beautifully showcased on the large plate of sublithographic limestone that also contains a small fish. This is a very displayable fossil shrimp from the Cretaceous.
