This is a very cool fossil. It is a detailed example of Caryocrinites ornatus (cystoid) and a Trimerus head (trilobite) from the Rochester Shale of New York. This specimen is from the Eugene Thomas Collection. This type of primitive echinoderm has an oval to round to calyx comprised of large, highly ornamented plates - the plate structure of this specimen is easily seen. There is also a large Trimerus delphinocephalus cephalon preserved on the plate. The fossils have very good color and striking contrast and are well showcased on the nice block of shale. This is a very nice display specimen of two different types of fossil animals from the Silurian of New York.
