This is a very interesting fossil. This is a colorful sponge (Vauxia?) from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada. This fossil and others were found in a single layer and nowhere else in the formation, as far as we know. This distinct specimen is nicely preserved and exhibits fine detail. The tubular shape of the organism is beautifully displayed, the textured pattern is quite evident, and the small holdfast at the bottom is easily seen. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well presented on the natural plate of shale. This is a very rare and collectible fossil of this delicate animal.
