This is a wonderful specimen of a fossil shrimp. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, fossils from this site are difficult to obtain. This shrimp is very well preserved and exhibits fine detail - the head, segmented body, and tail of the shrimp are clearly defined. Even the long legs, pointed rostrum, and eye are quite evident. The fossil is wonderfully showcased and beautifully displayed on the block of sublithographic limestone. This is a very detailed example of a Carpopenaeus shrimp from the Middle East.
