This is a very distinct stromatolite slab from the Precambrian of Australia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This striking slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The interesting pattern of the stromatolite is beautifully showcased, and the different shades of the mineral replacement are quite noticeable. This is a very detailed, displayable example of this extremely uncommon stromatolite from Down Under.
