This is a very collectible fossil. This is a plate of colorful sponges (Vauxia?) from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada. These fossils were found in a single layer and nowhere else in the formation, as far as we know. This rare multiple specimen is very well preserved and exhibits fine detail. The tubular shape of the organisms is beautifully displayed, the textured pattern is quite evident, and the small holdfasts at the bottoms are easily seen. The fossils have great natural color and wonderful contrast and are well presented on the large plates of shale. This is a very rare and collectible Lower Cambrian fossil, similar to fossils from the Burgess Shale.
