This is a very rare fossil. It is an enigmatic Camptostroma roddyi from York County, Pennsylvania. Camptostroma are one of the earliest known types of echinoderms, and are now thought to be related to the edrioasteroids. Found in the Lower Cambrian, these rare, Medusa-like animals had a distinct plate structure and an unusual orange-brown coloration. This fossil has great detail and contrasts well with the lighter-colored matrix. The distinct plate structure is easily seen, and the disc-shaped fossil is easily seen on the matrix plate. This is a very collectible example of this very unusual Lower Cambrian echinoderm.
