This is a very unusual fossil. It is a fossilized ball of Blue-Green Algae from the Silurian of Iowa. Originally, experts thought this was a type of crinoid, thus its name. This distinct specimen is very inflated and 3-D, and has excellent detail preserved. This is a very fine mass of Blue-Green Algae from Iowa. (Algae is not an invertebrate, but we do not have a category for algae, so it is included here.)
