This is a very striking specimen of a fossil shrimp. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This shrimp is nicely preserved and exhibits fine detail. The head, segmented body, and tail of the shrimp is clearly defined - even the long legs, pointed rostrum, and eye are quite evident. The fossil is beautifully showcased on the squared plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a nice, detailed fossil shrimp from the Cretaceous.
