This is a very striking specimen of a fossil shrimp. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This shrimp is nicely preserved and exhibits very fine detail. The head, segmented body, and tail of the shrimp is clearly defined - even the long legs, pointed rostrum, and antennae are quite evident. The fossil is beautifully showcased on the large, semi-squared plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a very nice, detailed fossil shrimp from the Cretaceous.
