This is a fabulous example of a newly discovered stromatolite from the Cretaceous of Western Australia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This extremely striking slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique "growth ring" pattern of the stromatolite is beautifully showcased, and the different shades of the mineral replacement are quite noticeable. This is a very collectible example of this new stromatolite find from Down Under.
