This is an excellent specimen of a fossil shrimp. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are difficult to obtain. This shrimp is well preserved and exhibits fine detail - the head, segmented body, and tail of the shrimp are clearly defined. Even the long legs and pointed rostrum are quite evident. The fossil is wonderfully showcased and well displayed on the large, squared plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a large, detailed example of a Carpopenaeus shrimp from the Middle East.
