Here is a very interesting fossil bird track from the Green River Formation of Utah. There is a large water bird track on the plate. This track was probably made by a Sandpiper-like bird. It is very easy to understand how a bird made tracks in the mud along the shoreline of the lake. But it is very rare that tracks actually end up preserved as fossils! This track is very easily seen showcased in the rock. This is a very nice specimen of a large bird track from the Eocene - what a great conversation piece!
