This is a gorgeous stromatolite fossil from the Devonian of Mexico. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. It is believed that this stromatolite is over 300 million years old! This large slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The depositional layers are wonderfully defined, and the colorful mineral replacement is just spectacular. The many red, yellow, and orange bands of jasper make for a very striking display. This is a beautiful display specimen of this exotic stromatolite from Mexico.
