This is a very striking specimen of a fossil shrimp. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. This specimen was recently acquired from the Richard Busch Collection. Busch was the Preparator/Asst. Curator at the North Museum in Lancaster, PA from 1965-1992. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This shrimp is beautifully preserved and exhibits fine detail. The head, segmented body, and tail of the shrimp is clearly defined - even the long legs, pointed rostrum, and eye are quite evident. The fossil is preserved with natural, dark dendrites and is beautifully showcased on the large plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a top quality fossil shrimp from the Busch Collection.
