Here is a gorgeous ammonite. This is Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This ammonite has been sliced in half and both halves have been highly polished to reveal the excellent detail of the cephalopod. The coiling pattern of the mollusc is quite evident and the individual chambers of the ammonite are easily seen. The septa of the cephalopod are an unusual cramish-white color and exquisitely defined against the yellowish-orange crystalline chambers. The beautiful coloration of this ammonite is totally natural. This is a very striking ammonite from the Cretaceous.
