This is a very rare grouping of TEN Camptostroma roddyi from the Lower Cambrian, most specimens coming from York, Pennsylvania (the others are from the Brukakers Quarry!). This new locality in York was just recently discovered, but was quickly collected out. Camptostroma are some of the earliest known types of echinoderms, and are now thought to be related to the edrioasteroids. Found in the Lower Cambrian, these rare, Medusa-like animals had a distinct plate structure and usually an unusual orange-brown coloration. These fossils have very nice detail - the distinct plate structure is easily seen. The natural orange coloration contrasts well with the lighter-colored matrix. There are also Olenellus and Wanneria trilobite parts on some of the plates, the proving their provenance. And there are not just ten individual specimens - four are single specimens and THREE ARE SPLIT PAIRS, part and counterpart together! This is a very rare, collectible assortment of unusual Lower Cambrian echinoderms, probably the most iconic non-trilobite fossil found in the Kinzers Shale.
