This is a very unusual fossil. This is a split pair of colorful sponges (Vauxia?) and trilobites from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada. This fossil was found in a single layer and nowhere else in the formation, as far as we know. This very unusual specimen is nicely preserved and exhibits fine detail. The tubular shapes of the sponges are beautifully displayed, and the two different species of Olenellus trilobites are quite distinct. The sponges have great color and contrast and are well showcased on each of the plates of shale, surrounded by the trilobites. This is a very rare and collectible part/counterpart fossil, similar to fossils from BC and PA.
