This is a fabulous stromatolite slab from the Cambrian of Australia. It is a striking plate of Mawsonsia madaginia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. It is believed that this stromatolite is about 450 million years old! This colorful slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique depositional pattern of the stromatolite is beautifully showcased, and the different shades of the mineral replacement are simply awesome. This is a very large, collectible example of this very uncommon stromatolite from Down Under.
