This is a beautiful horseshoe crab fossil. It is a large Mesolimulus walchi from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. Horseshoe crabs and dragonflies are probably the most sought-after fossils from this site. This specimen was prepared ventrally so you actually see the underside of the horseshoe crab. The crab is complete and has good color and contrast. The fine detail of the exoskeleton is easily seen. The arthropod is almost perfectly centered on the squared plate of lithographic limestone. This is an extremely collectible example of this very recognizable fossil from the "Age of the Dinosaurs".
