This is a fantastic US ammonite. It is a very large Jeletzkytes nebrascensis from South Dakota. This specimen is extremely 3-dimensional and complete all the way to the aperture. The cephalopod exhibits amazingly fine detail, and the whitish, nacreous shell of the ammonite is intact and beautifully preserved. The ammonite sits on a natural pillar of matrix, and can be partially viewed from the back side of the block. It would be hard to imagine a large Jeletzkytes that displays better than this specimen. It is a very beautiful and collectible ammonite fossil.
